The Clinton Daily Herald 30 Oct 1888

Beyond the River.
Monday, after much suffering, the spirit of Mrs. Rachel Barnum-Bulger, sister of Mr. J. H. Barnum, passed peacefully away, at the residence of Mr. Thos. Adams, in the northwest part of Clinton. This devout Christian lady was born Jan. 4, 1830, in New Fairfield, Conn. In 1858 she came to Lyons, where her home had been the greater part of the time since, and where she had been identified with the Methodist church for the past 20 years. Some five years ago, while in Nebraska, she was stricken with paralysis, which made her helpless until her final farewell to earth was made. She had been married twice. Of the second marriage three children were the fruit, two of whom are laid in the Hess Cemetery, and one, Frank, in the West. The funeral will occur Wednesday afternoon at 2, at her late home with Mr. Adams, and interment will be made beside the mounds of her children.
