Mrs. George N. Chalker died at 2:40 o'clock this morning at her home, 416 Eleventh avenue, from a complication of diseases, having been ailing since the death of Mr. Chalker, who passed away last February and she also lost a sister in the same month. The double shock was a hard blow and she never rallied from it, although she was able to be up and about the house, taking to her bed about two weeks ago and passing away at the hour above stated.
Deceased was born Oct. 2, 1848 near Mt. Carroll, Ill., her maiden name was Susan Lamb. She was the daughter of Emery C. Lamb and Isabel Spencer Lamb. On Feb. 1, 1870, she was married to George N. Chalker that place and they came to Clinton to live, residing 49 years on Eleventh avenue and for the past 39 years in the house in which she died.
She leaves to mourn her passing one son, Clark E. Chalker, and one sister, Mrs. H. G. Carpenter, of Geraldine, Mont., who came to visit her about five weeks ago when she learned of her failing health and remained with her to the end; also several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Chalker was a life-long member of the Methodist church and a charter member of the Clara Bartin Circle, Ladies of the Grand Army. While her chief interest centered in her home, always looking after the welfare of her husband and son, she was also a good neighbor and friend and no greater tribute than this could be paid her.
On Feb. 1st Mr. and Mrs. Chalker celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary, but the joys of that occasion were quickly turned to sorrow when on February 19th Mr. Chalker passed away and on February 22nd Mrs. Chalker's sister died.
The funeral will be held at the home, 416 Eleventh avenue Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock, with Rev. H. C. Culver in charge of the service. Burial will be made at Springdale cemetery.
