Paul Edward Phelps, 86, died following a heart attack at the rest area on interstate 80 Jan. 13. Phelps was enroute to Veterans hospital, Iowa City, and had gone to the rest room when the attack took place. The Tipton ambulance was called but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday in Lost Nation.
Mr. Phelps operated the Phelps Grain Co. at Lost Nation and Elwood. He was a retired mail carrier. He was an army veteran of World War I, a 61 year member of the American Legion, a 60 year member of the Masons, serving as past master, instructor and district lecturer. He was member of the Presbyterian church. He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter, 2 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
