Leonard Ole Jess, 83, of Clinton, Iowa, died Saturday, May 21, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2005, at Clinton Church of Christ. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2005, at Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Lance Sherman and grandsons, Creighton Duncan, Brandon Duncan, Marcus Wood, Daniel Wood and David Wood.
He was born October 31, 1921, in Andover, Iowa, the son of Frederick and Gena (Jensen) Jess. He was a Clinton High School graduate.
Leonard served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Asian Theater of action.
He married Velma Irene Miller on August 30, 1945, in Richmond, Va. She died June 29, 2000.
Leonard retired as a supervisor at E.I. Dupont after more than 32 years of employment.
He was a member of the Clinton Church of Christ, and started a Nursing Scholarship in memory of his wife for Clinton High and Sheraton Iowa High School students.
Survivors include his daughter, Fern (Royce) Duncan, of LeClaire, Iowa; daughter, Doris (Keith) Wood, of Bettendorf, son, Marvin Jess, of Albia, Iowa, son, Stanton Jess, of North Liberty, Iowa, and son, Stephen Jess, of North Liberty, Iowa; six grandchildren, Jerilyn (Lance) Sherman, of Bettendorf, Creighton (Katie) Duncan, of Bettendorf, Brandon (Amber) Duncan, of Des Moines, Marcus Wood, of Abilene, Texas, Daniel Wood, of San Dimas, Calif., and David Wood, of Abilene, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Logan Sherman, Ashten Sherman and Avery Duncan.
Leonard was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, his parents and his brother, Henry Jess.
Memorials may be made to Clinton Church of Christ.
