Obituary
Joyce Ann (Mrs. G.W.) Marmé, 98, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport.

Born July 1, 1923, to Robert and Evelyn (Wendel) Williams in Sioux City, Iowa, Joyce’s father’s career took the family to many locations in the U.S. finally settling in Peoria, Illinois. She graduated from high school in Peoria and attended Western Illinois State Teachers College. Joyce was an executive secretary for Caterpillar in Peoria. She married Dr. George William “Bill” Marmé on June 5, 1948, at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Peoria. The couple moved to DeWitt in 1950, where they raised 7 children. Joyce worked for 30 years as librarian at St. Joseph Catholic School in DeWitt. Dr. Marmé preceded her in death in 2006.

Joyce was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, serving on numerous boards over the years. She was a magnificent cook, baker, and party planner. Joyce was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and devoted wife.

Surviving are her children, Dr. Michael (Susan) Marmé, Rutherford, New Jersey, Dr. Christine (Daniel) Thompson, Dr. Michelle Marmé, both of Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Christopher (Mamata) Marmé, DeWitt, Jennifer Marmé, Rock Island, Illinois, and Ram Marmé, Eureka, California; grandchildren, Paul (Kristina Wallig) Thompson, Matthew Power, Krishna Marmé, and Nathan Lowery; great-grandchildren Ella and Mia Thompson-Wallig; treasured sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded by her husband, brother Robert, and son-in-law, Bill Power.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt, the Rev. Fr. Stephen Page officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
