Robert “Bob” Owens, 75, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022, in his home, following an illness.

Bob was born December 9, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa, to Earl and Marjorie (Pooler) Owens.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Owens, mother, Marjorie Schultz, and step-father, Hugo Schultz. Bob graduated from Central Community Schools in DeWitt. Bob enlisted in the US Army, serving in Germany for two years. Upon his return, he furthered his education at Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa. Bob was united in marriage to Gena Ester on July 15, 1972, in Naperville, Illinois. The couple resided in DeWitt, where they raised their son, Matt. Bob worked at J.I. Case, Nabisco, Remco food brokerage, and later owned and operated The Men’s Corner clothier in DeWitt until retiring.

Bob enjoyed sharing stories of his growing up years. He loved to be in the kitchen making a big pot of any kind of soup and took much pride in his grilling skills even when there was snow covering the ground. Another love he had was coaching some of his son’s soccer and baseball games as Matt was growing up. Then as the years went by, his granddaughters Paige and Avery came along and he was thrilled when they decided to play sports. They were his pride and joy, and attended most all of their activities even when he wasn’t feeling his best.

Bob was always that person who was one step ahead of you figuring out how he could be of help. He was known to those close to him as Odie, he was a great listener; was a warm and loving husband, father and grandfather and he definitely enjoyed spending time with those he loved. He enjoyed watching and attending Iowa Hawkeye games too. Bob will be remembered for his sense of humor, his smile, and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone.

He will be a man dearly missed by his family; but he will live on in their hearts forever.

Those left to honor Bob’s memory are his wife Gena, son Matt and his granddaughters Paige and Avery.

At Bob’s request, no visitation, or funeral will be held. He is at peace and no longer in discomfort or pain and will forever be remembered by his family and friends.

Arrangements are in the care of Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. Condolences may be expressed at www.schultzfuneralhomes.com
