Harold L. “Butch” Watts, age 80 of Clinton, passed away Saturday, February 5, 2022 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12:00 until the service time Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery with a lunch following at Lyons/Trinity United Methodist Church. Harold was born in Stanton, Nebraska on October 12, 1941, the son of Levi J. and Elsie (Beasley) Watts. He attended Clinton Schools and served with the U.S. Navy for 4 years. He married Carla Stratton on September 8, 1972 in Kahoka, Missouri. Carla passed away on November 23, 2018. Harold was employed at Clinton Corn Processing Company for 18 years. He retired after 20 years as a foreman with the Rock Island Arsenal. He was a member of Lyons/Trinity Methodist Church. Harold never met a stranger and was fun to be around. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, going to race track to watch the horses and dogs run, as well as trips to the casino. He was a sports enthusiast, following the Iowa Hawkeye, Chicago Bears and Cubs. He loved his chocolate lab Duke. “Sir Duke of Highview” was very special to him throughout the past several years sharing companionship and his high energy.
Harold is survived by 4 children; Todd (Susan) Watts of Davenport, Larry (Heather) Watts of Mesa, AZ; Gary (Jamie) Watts of Clinton and Wendy (Scott) Murphy of Clinton; 9 grandchildren, Bobbie Sue (Andy) Jessen, Stephanie (Trey Parker) Watts, Brooke (Ryan) Arey, Kyle Murphy, Trevor Watts, Jessie (Kevin) McDonald, Luke (Matea) Alexander, Shane (Savannah Remrey) Ries, and Kirstie Tholen; 11 great grandchildren, Logan, Magnolia, McKenzie, Patrick, Amelia, Zele, Atlas, Jude, Kennedy, Gabby, and Brooklynn and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife; a great grandson, Sky; 4 sisters, Erma, Lillian, Patti, and Verna and 4 brothers, Marvin, Leland, Thomas and George. Memorials may be made to the University of Iowa heart transplant team or the American Heart Association.
