Alta Maxine Jones, 82, of Camanche, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at MercyOne, Clinton.
Services will be 11:00AM Saturday, November 27, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church, Clinton. Visitation will be from 9:00AM until the service hour Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at snellzornig.com. The Camanche Chapel Snell-Zornig is assisting the family with arrangements.
Alta was born July 16, 1939 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of McClellan and Pearl (Williams) Miller.
Alta married Earl “Buzz” Bennett of Argo Fay, IL December 30, 1956 in Camanche, IA. Together they had three sons, Kenneth, Kevin and Michael, Earl passed away July 3, 1971. Alta married Lawrence “Larry” Jones August 5, 1977 in Clinton, Iowa. Together they raised Alta’s three sons and Larry’s daughter, Mary Jones.
Alta had been employed at General Electric in Morrison, Illinois for 36 years, she retired in 1995. After retiring, in July of 1995, Alta and Larry moved to Benton, AR, living there until moving to Camanche in November of 2002.
Alta, along with her husband were active members of Calvary Baptist Church, Clinton and the Iowa Illinois Antique Car Club.
Alta is survived by her loving husband, Larry of Camanche, IA; Children, Mary (Jeremy) Campbell of Clinton; Kenneth (Janelle) Bennett of Davenport, IA; Kevin (Sandy) Bennett of Morrison, CO and Michael Bennett of Seminole, FL; three granddaughters, one grandson, four great-grandsons; her brother, Michael (Ann) Miller of Shelley, ID and four nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, parents, sister, Jo McLeod, niece Katie Miller and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorials may be made to the Friends of the Camanche Public Library, where Alta loved to volunteer.
