Larry Roeder (1938-2021)

Larry “LR” Roeder, 83 of Welton, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 12, 2021, at Senior Star in Davenport.

Larry was born on March 20, 1938, to Ollie and Peggy (McDonnell) Roeder in Springbrook, Iowa. He graduated from Charlotte High School in 1956. Larry started farming after graduation and then married Carol Ann Hand on August 12, 1961, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. They moved to the family farm in 1963, which has been in the family for 156 years, and was declared a Heritage Farm in 2015. Carol Ann preceded him in death on September 28, 2020.

Larry was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Welton, the Knights of Columbus, and a Welton volunteer fireman. He enjoyed farming, traveling, boating in Bellevue, dancing, free beer, and family history. He was able to fix/repair anything and was known for “Raiderizing” equipment.

Surviving are his children, Tom Roeder, Welton, Rhonda (Mike) Evans, Tiffin, daughter-in-law, Shona Roeder, Iowa City; grandsons, Nick, Shamus, Tristan, Teagan, Jacob, and Joshua Roeder; siblings, Mary Ann Clark, Phyllis (Vern) Henrich, Kenny (Aletha) Roeder, Jean Roeder; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Schulte; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife, Carol Ann, Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie & Peggy Roeder, in-laws, Leo & Catherine Hand, son, Ted Roeder, brothers-in-law David Clark and Bill Schulte.

Larry has chosen to donate his body to science at the University of Iowa. His family will greet relatives and friends from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 15, 2021, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 16, 2021, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, DeWitt, with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to Welton Fire Department or Camp Courageous.

In honor of Larry please wear a flannel shirt and jeans to the visitation.
