Jay Stevens, 60, of Albany, IL, died Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Allure of Prophetstown in Prophetstown, IL.
His funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Saturday, September 25, 2021, at the Albany United Methodist Church in Albany, IL, with Pastor Toni Lucas, Pastor at Albany United Methodist Church, officiating. A visitation will precede the service starting at 2:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be held at Lusk Cemetery in Albany, IL. Memorials have been established to the Albany United Methodist Church and MercyOne Auxillary.
Jay was born January 25, 1961, in Clinton, IA, to John H. and Carolyn B. (Gray) Stevens. He was educated in the Albany Grade School and was a 1979 graduate of Fulton High School. Jay then attended Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, IL. Jay owned and operated Jay's Grill in Albany, IL. He then worked as a cook at the General Store in Clinton, IA, and the Shamrock in Cordova, IL. He was well known for his catfish fries. Jay was a member of the Albany United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and held many offices. He was president of the Dekalb District for United Methodist Men. He was also a member of the Albany Lions Club and of the MercyOne Auxiliary. Jay was an avid car lover. His passion in life was making people happy with his cooking and he enjoyed supporting all his friends in their endeavors. He was well loved by the community, his friends and his classmates.
Survivors include his mother, Carolyn Stevens of Albany; two sisters, Sheri Stevens of Albany and Lori Wade of Appleton, WI; one brother, Larry (Sheila) Stevens of Waunakee, WI; two nieces, Jennifer Rose and Sarah Wade; four nephews, John Rose, Josh Wade, Nathan and Trevor Stevens; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, John; maternal and paternal grandparents.
