Gerald T. Bender, 85, of Clinton passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2021 at his home, Clinton.
Come celebrate Jerry's life with us at his funeral service that will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clinton. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the service time at the church. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com.
Gerald Thomas Bender was born November 9, 1935 in Webster, South Dakota, the son of Lynn and Elsie (Priebe) Bender. He married Helen Oberman on February 25, 1962 in Clinton, Iowa. He was a 1953 graduate of Sabula High School. He worked at Clinton Engines in Maquoketa and then later for International Paper for 30 years. During retirement he worked for Milestones doing many jobs including delivering meals.
Jerry was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, he enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, puzzles, playing cards and refinishing furniture. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and Green Bay Packers fan.
He is survived by his wife Helen of Clinton; three daughters Robin Bender of Tucson, Arizona, Rachel (Brian Nagy) Delestatious of Milwaukie, Oregon and Roberta (Matt) Leeper of Ainsworth, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters and one great grandson Colton.
Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clinton or the Hope Lodge at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
