Obituary
Thomas E. White, 75, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.Tom was born August 15, 1945, the son of James and Bertha White, in Mt. Sterling, Illinois. During high school he worked for his Dad at a bakery in Jacksonville, Illinois. After graduating, Tom served four years in the United States Navy in Vietnam during the war. Upon his return, he married Barbara Wheeler on October 11, 1968, in Jacksonville, Illinois. Tom considered himself a jack of all trades, working a variety of jobs included but not limited to, train wrecking, wholesale floral and plant selling, construction, and finally retiring as head of maintenance at Chatham School District, Chatham, Illinois, following 25 years of service. The couple moved to the DeWitt area in 2009.
Tom was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in DeWitt. He enjoyed fishing and boating, camping, motorcycle riding, woodworking in his shop, archiving family photos, spending time with his family, and attending his grandkids’ sporting events and activities.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Barb; children, Christopher White of Springfield, Illinois, and Paula (David) Mess of Camanche, Iowa; grandchildren, Cody and Caty White, and Abby and Taylor Mess.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Cornerstone Baptist Church in DeWitt, Pastor Mark Zevenbergen officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
