Martin J. Garshak, 81, of Clinton, passed away, Monday, April 5, 2021 at the University of Iowa Hospitals - Iowa City, Iowa.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life is planned for a later date. Per his wishes there will be no services or visitation. Private family burial will be at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. The Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory - Clinton is assisting the family. Martin John Garshak was born on March 7, 1940, in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, the son of Francis and Theresa (Perchak) Garshak. He was an Engineering graduate of Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He served in the United States Army from 1958-1961. He married Rita Bentley on May 17, 1979 in Chicago, Illinois.
Martin worked for the federal government in Homeland Security in Washington DC for 28 years.
Martin and Rita enjoyed traveling after his retirement. He loved spending time with his beloved dog, Gus, religiously feeding the birds, and a squirrel that he named Gary.
Martin is survived by his wife: Rita of Clinton; his children: Matthew Garshak of Rock Island, Illinois, Royce (Caroline) Garshak of Bartow, Florida, Alexis (Daniel) Gibler of DelRay Beach, Florida, Christopher (Tiffany Ann) Garshak of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Blaze Garshak of Clinton; two grandchildren: Nicole and Samantha Garshak of Venezuela; and his brother: Francis (Maureen) Garshak of Sun Lake, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Humane Society or St. Judes.
