Donald J. Burke, 60, of Charlotte, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Don was born March 1, 1960, in Quebec, Canada, and adopted by George and Mary Jean (Britt) Burke. He grew up in rural Charlotte, Iowa. Don graduated from Northeast High School in Goose Lake, and attended a winter session in agriculture at Iowa State University. He married Deb Braden on August 26, 1983. The couple had 2 children. They later divorced, but remained friends. He worked for Tim’s Heating and Cooling in Charlotte, and later Eastern Iowa Propane, of Clinton. He later farmed full-time on the family farm.

Don was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Petersville, where he took care of many things, including the cemetery. He actively served for 28 years on the Charlotte Volunteer Fire Department, from 1993 to the present. Don arranged many tractor-pulls in Petersville, Charlotte, and DeWitt, and attended many across the country. He enjoyed boating, camping, golfing, and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Jessica (Tommy) Clifford, of Santa Clarita, California, and Kyle (Renee) Burke of Charlotte; grandchildren, Ace Clifford, Kyson and Chase Burke; siblings, Mary Anne (Bob) Braden, Madonna (Lawrence “J.R.”) Thines, and George (Angie) Burke, Jr.; many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 5, 2021, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Petersville. A Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 6, 2021, in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
