Services for Clifford E. Smith, 78, DeWitt, formerly of LeClaire and Lost Nation, were held at 11 a.m., Tues., June 16 at Union Presbyterian Church, Lost Nation, with Rev. Paul Skelley officiating.
Burial was in Lost Nation Cemetery.
Schultz-McGinnis Funeral Home, DeWitt, was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Smith died Thursday at his home.
Clifford E. Smith was born Feb. 23, 1914 in Brooklyn, Iowa to John and Julia Jan Smith. He married Nora Umbenstock on Nov. 2, 1936 in Tama, Iowa. She died on Oct. 10, 1976.
Mr. Smith operated the C&E Cafe and Tavern with his brother for 10 years in Lost Nation. He later worked as assistant manager for Farmer's Co-op in Lost Nation, retiring in 1977.
Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Norman (Lorna Mae) Hall, Medford, Ore.; and Mrs. Terry (Mary Jo) Schultz, St. Paul, Minn.; a son, James, DeWitt; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Warren (Opal) McCaw, Belle Plaine, Iowa; and a brother, Elmer, Eldridge.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
