David W. Richards, 62, of Goose Lake, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Genesis - East in Davenport due to Pancreatic Cancer.
Graveside Services for family and friends are being planned for the spring at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. The Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com.
David Wayne Richards was born on February 9, 1958 in Clinton, Iowa, the oldest of three children to Francis and Shirley (Crook) Richards. He was a 1976 graduate of Clinton High School. He married Kathy Ann Frazier on December 8, 1979 in Clinton at First United Methodist Church.
Over the years, David was employed with DuPont, Clinton Community Care Facility, Ipsco Steel, and Spahn and Rose Lumber Company in Charlotte. After his retirement, he worked part time at Colony Brands.
After moving to Goose Lake, he became active on the city council serving as a representative for years before serving multiple terms as mayor. His involvement with the council led him to be chairman of the Clinton County Solid Waste Board for numerous years.
He was always happy to be surrounded and amused by children and dogs with a special fondness for Beagles. He loved golf vacations in Alabama and especially in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina where he played more than 60 courses. After retirement, he spent the winters in Myrtle Beach enjoying the ocean, playing golf, and spending time with his Uncle Lee Crook of Loris, S.C. and cousin Linda (Larry) Wagner of Longs, S.C. who were all very special to him. With his easy going nature, he was never at a loss for words with anyone he met.
David was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan. His love for golf started at a young age playing at Valley Oaks. He was a member of Plum River Golf Course in Preston where he belonged to the men's league and the traveling men's league, as well as the couple's league. When he wasn't playing golf, he could be found chatting with neighbors or in his shop where he became an accomplished wood worker. He thoroughly enjoyed tackling home improvement projects, taking pride that he had the skills to perform all aspects required. He was always willing to help others with their projects.
David is survived by his wife: Kathy of Goose Lake; one sister; one brother; his brother-in-laws: Chris (Sherri) Frazier and Dan (Sarah) Frazier both of Clinton; and large extended family of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and Aunts and Uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents, his half brother: Francis, and two brother-in-laws: Mike and Terry Frazier.
Memorials can be made to the family for a charity of their choice.
