Peter Duer, cashier of the Farmers and Merchants’ bank of Charlotte was injured at a ball game. A batted ball struck him on the left eye, breaking his spectacles and destroying the sight. He died later, following an operation.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows he was born March 16, 1860 and died Sept. 2, 1915. He is buried in Hickory Hill Cemetery.
