Obituary
Iola May DeMoss, 75, of Elwood, Iowa, passed away suddenly Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, due to a brain aneurysm.

Iola was born May 7, 1945, in Welton, Iowa, to Paul and Esther (Dieckmann) Schwien. After graduating from Central Community Schools in DeWitt in 1963 she continued her education in nursing for 2 years in Cedar Rapids. Iola married Frederick D. DeMoss on February 21, 1965, at Grace Lutheran Church in DeWitt. She worked for 15 years as a nurse’s aide in DeWitt. She returned to school at Clinton Community College, becoming a registered nurse in 1993. She worked in Maquoketa as an R.N. for 16 years, retiring in 2007. In retirement, she and Fred wintered in Arizona.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her dog, Honey, and her chickens. She was very proud to be a great-great-grandmother. She enjoyed relaxing with digital coloring.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Fred; children, Michael (Melody) DeMoss, Michele (Bruce Dague) DeMoss all of Maquoketa, Steven (Ellie) DeMoss, Sabula, James (Lori) DeMoss, Delmar, Sharon (Matt) Green, Miles, Delbert (Beth) DeMoss, Welton, Daniel (Karen) DeMoss, Preston; 26 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Elvera Rheuport and Iva (Danny) Clark; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Jason, and brother, Everett Schwien.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2021, at Schultz Funeral Home, in DeWitt. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2021, in the funeral home, with Pastor Nathan Fergusen officiating. Burial following at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
