Veda Lee Smith, 82, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at Prairie Hills Assisted Living with family by her side on Wednesday, October 28, 2020. Funeral services occur at 11 am on Tuesday, November 3, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Dr.). A visitation occurs from 4 pm to 7 pm on Monday, November 2 at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel. An additional visitation will occur one hour prior to the funeral service on Tuesday. Burial takes place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Veda was born October 1, 1938 in Dyersville, Iowa the daughter of William and Erma (Scott) Cooksley. Veda was united in marriage to James E. Smith on February 26, 1957 in Epworth, Iowa.

Veda started her career working at the Ertl Toy Company in Dyersville, Iowa. Later she was a cook working at Country Kitchen in Clinton. Her family was always her main priority and she cherished taking care of them as a homemaker.

Veda enjoyed working puzzles, watching favorite TV programs and reading books. She and her husband enjoyed dancing and camping. Above all, she loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be sadly missed.

Veda is survived by her five daughters - Becky Cummings of Bellevue, IA, Christine (Jimmie) Schnoor of Camanche, IA, Erma Naeve of Bellevue, IA, Patty (Kevin) Mayberry of Boone, IA and June (Frank) Schlecht of Clinton, IA; two sons – William (Madonna Anderson) Smith of Clinton, IA and Donald Smith of Gallatin, TN; sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; one brother – William Cooksley of Epworth, IA, with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son – Richard, three grandsons – Anthony, Dillon and Dallas and one sister – Mel Kennedy.
