Don L. Chinburg, 91, of Lisle, Illinois, formerly of Clinton, Iowa, died Monday, October 26, 2020, at his home. Private visitation and services for Don will be held on Friday, October 30, 2020, at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in the Springdale Cemetery.

Don was born December 13, 1928, in Dayton, Iowa, the son of Carl and Mable (LeValley) Chinburg. He was a 1946 graduate of the Dayton Consolidated Schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran and received his BA in 1951 from Cornell College, Mt Vernon, Iowa, and his MA from the University of Iowa in 1958. Don married Ardea Schwendemann on June 29, 1952, in Dayton, Iowa. She passed away on August 19, 2011.
Don retired from the Clinton Community Schools after 35 years and worked as a Teacher, Coach, Principal, Assistant Superintendent, and Director of Personnel. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the education commission, was a staff parish relations committee chairman and chairman of the Board of Trustees. Don was a National Education Association life member, and member of the National Association of School Personnel, Iowa State Education Association, ISPA and served as treasurer, secretary and president with ISPA, IEPA, and was an Iowa PTA life member, serving as treasurer from 1975 to 1979. He was also involved with Kiwanis Club and served as past president, Jaycees and served as secretary, and Rotary Club.
Don lived in Lisle, IL since 2012, where prior to the pandemic he enjoyed a wide variety of activities with friends and could usually be found playing bridge, euchre, or other games that kept his memory sharp. He was an avid reader and history buff and enjoyed attending plays and musicals in the Chicago area. He frequently walked or exercised, still rode his bike, and approached life with a positive, upbeat outlook.
Survivors include his son, David Chinburg (Wendy Land) of Prior Lake, MN; daughters, Leigh Anne (Douglas) Cutcher of Farmington Hills, MI and Carol Thompson (Davide Bova) of Downers Grove, IL; grandchildren, Jenna and Jordan (Kayla) Chinburg, Kyra, Alyssa and Katie Cutcher and Ashley and Jack Thompson; and brother Jon (Norma) Wenkalman of Sylmar, CA.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jerry and Richard Chinburg of Dayton, Iowa.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Clinton, Iowa and the American Heart Association.
