Natalie Hesse Regan, 100, of Calamus, Iowa, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 17, 2020, at Wheatland Manor in Wheatland.
Natalie was born Mary Natalie McDonnell, January 15, 1920, in Welton, Iowa, to John and Mary (Dever) McDonnell. She married Marion Albert Hesse September 19, 1942, at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church in Clinton. They had six children. He died August 13, 1959. She married John C. Regan August 10, 1963 at SS Philip & James Catholic Church in Grand Mound. John and his late wife, Mary (Drew) Regan, had six children. He died August 6, 1996. Natalie worked for 22 years as a feature and advertising representative for the DeWitt Observer newspaper, officially retiring in 2000, but continuing as a correspondent for the Calamus area.
She was a member of SS Philip & James Catholic Church, serving on the Altar & Rosary Society, as well as the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Pathseekers Group of Concept Therapy.
She is survived by her children, Noreen Gosch (George) Hartney, West Des Moines, Ronald (Janine) Hesse, Davenport, Lawrence, Black Canyon City, AZ, Bob Hesse (deceased), Andulusia, IL, Richard (Bobbie) Hesse, Calamus, and William (Shelley) Hesse, DeWitt; step-children, JoAnne Regan, San Diego, CA, Mary Jane Regan, Davenport, Patrick (Sue) Regan, Donahue, Mark (Deb) Regan, Parkview, Tom Regan, Davenport, and Kevin (Paula) Regan, Davenport; 17 grandchildren, Christine (Wes) Rostenbach, Joe (Nancy) Gosch, Johnny Gosch, Chris (Donna) Hesse, Aaron Hesse, Rob Z. Hesse (deceased), Marcus (Amanda) Hesse, KaSandra (Brad) Hesse Brenny, Autumn (Scott) Griffin, Amber Berger, Andrew Hesse, Austin Hesse (deceased), Holly (Charles) Matoesian, Tracy (Greg) Brinkmeyer, Ryan Regan, Matt (Susie) Regan and Rachel Regan; 19 great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Amanda, and Alaina Rostenbach, Sydney and Gabriel Boeckmann, Eric and Emmit Griffin, Ian and Madison Hesse, Morgan Hesse, Kayla, Meagen and Zander Berger and Jaxton Evans, Lydia and Charlotte Brenny, Cole and Drew Brinkmeyer, John and Grant Regan; siblings and in-laws, Rita Turner (deceased), Robert (Donna) McDonnell (deceased), Charles (deceased) (Norma) McDonnell, Paul (Lucille McDonnell Humphrey) McDonnell (deceased), Gene (deceased) (Gloria) McDonnell, Gerald McDonnell (deceased), Bernie (Virginia) McDonnell (deceased), May (Melvin) Saddoris (deceased), Milly (Paul) Waters (deceased), Julian (Shirley) Regan (deceased), Margaret (deceased) (Gene) Stillmunkes, Monica (J.C.) Hoerner (deceased), Joyce (Fred) (deceased) Regan, and Polly (Harold) Takes (deceased), Amelia (Neil) Bruck (deceased), Agnese (J.C. Ripple) (Joe Hayes) Hayes (deceased), Jim Regan (deceased); many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at Schultz Funeral Home, Grand Mound. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Ss Philip & James Catholic Church, Grand Mound and will be streamed at https://www.facebook.com/schultzfunerhomes/live. The Rev. Fr. Francis Odoom will officiate and burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Grand Mound.
