Donna Lou Flack was a loving Mother, Spouse, and caring teacher throughout her life. At the age of 90, Donna passed away Monday, July 29, 2019 at Javon Bea Hospital, Rockford, Illinois. Memorial visitation will be held from 10:00 - 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 3rd at the Community United Church of Christ, followed by a celebration of life service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the Community United Church of Christ, Savanna, with Pastor Niel Shoffner officiating. Inurnment will be in the Savanna Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Donna's honor to savannaveteransmemorial.org/donations.html. Donna was born March 5, 1929 in Thomson, Illinois, the daughter of Louis and Ethyl (Shaw) Mickelson. As a youngster, she attended the Tehan Country School, and graduated from the Fulton High School in 1946. Donna attended Mount St. Clair College in Clinton, Iowa, then later the University of Wisconsin Platteville, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Education in 1965. On November 20, 1948 Donna married Eugene "Gene" Flack. They celebrated 62 lovely years of marriage until Eugene's passing.
Donna worked as a teacher from 1948 to 1984, impacting the lives of many Savanna area students. She proceeded as a substitute teacher for many years until retiring. Donna was a member of Savanna Service Club, PEO, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She spent many years with the Savanna Jr. Women's Club and was a Girl Scout & Cub Scout Leader. Donna maintained a strong faith, was a natural leader, and enjoyed being active within the community. She loved reading, visiting with friends, and traveling with Gene. Most of all, Donna cherished her family, especially her grandchildren.
Donna will be dearly missed by her sons Todd (Roberta) Flack of Mt. Prospect, Illinois and Clarence (Carol) Flack of Clinton, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Isabella, Marisa, Sean, Heather and Corie; one brother, Allan Mickelson of Golconda, Illinois; two sisters, Pam (Kenneth) Brown of Savanna, Illinois and Denise (Delbert) Hamilton of Trenton, Illinois. Donna was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Ethyl, her husband Gene, sister Lyla Hoyt, and brother Gerald Mickelson.
