Raymond Siegfried Petersen (1937-2020)

Raymond S. Petersen, age 82, of Bryant died on July 11, 2020 at his son and daughter-in-law’s home on the farm he grew up on. Private family services will be held, with burial at Center Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jay Petersen, Brad Petersen, John Graeve, Devin Wojtczak, Will Croskrey and Kale Petersen.

Raymond Siegfried Petersen was born to August M. and Erna Nissen Petersen in Clinton on July 14, 1937. He grew up in rural Goose Lake and graduated from Goose Lake High School in 1955. After graduation, he began farming with his father in the Preston area and also served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. On October 13, 1957 he was united in marriage to Myrna Hansen. Together they farmed the Petersen family farm for 40 years. He was grateful to have family take over and was still helping up until May of this year. He was a long-time member of St John’s Lutheran Church and a former Goose Lake Jr. Feeders 4-H Club leader. He served on the Clinton County Cattlemen’s Board, and in 2019 was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Ray enjoyed spending time with family, their card club, and his antique Oliver tractor collection.

Survivors include his wife Myrna of 62 years; daughter, Joni (Kevin) Richmond of Robins and son Joel (Beth) Petersen of Preston; grandchildren, Amanda (Devin) Wojtczak, Sarah (Will) Croskrey, Megan Richmond, Jay (Erin) Petersen, Brad (Megan) Petersen, Angela (John) Graeve and 9 great grandchildren, Logan, Allison, Mason, Jed, Chelsea, Caleb, Ryan, Eleanor and Cora Lynn; two sisters-in-law, Earlene Petersen of DeWitt and Betty Petersen of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, his infant twin brother Ralph, brothers August and Martin, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edwin and Anita Jost.

The service will be live streamed at www.facebook.com/stjohnspreston beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 19, 2020. Condolences may be expressed and a photo tribute viewed at www.papefh.com.
