Mitzi Joan (Gladhill) Dorathy was born on November 4, 1931 to John and Joanna (Staben) Gladhill in Clinton, Iowa. She was educated in the Clinton School and worked at the Clinton Garment Company for 5 years. She married Wayne Dorathy on January 27, 1951; he preceded her in death on July 8, 2015. Although never being blessed in having children of her own, she was very fond of "kids"; being there to do things with them and for them, to give them added happiness in life.
Mitzi's hobbies were card playing, shopping to no end, and traveling around the United States of America. During her leisure she was always an ardent baker in the home, trying all recipes and taking pride in distributing many of her bakery "goodies" to people shut in especially for Christmas and birthdays.
Mitzi had a great friend Pat Dauer from Minnesota, many years younger than her who adopted Mitzi as her mother. She always reminded Mitzi that she was so kind and giving and that she could not think of Mitzi any other way. She was always very thoughtful of the people who were confined to nursing homes by visiting and taking things that would perhaps make their stay more comfortable.
Mitzi is survived by a sister: Janice Dunn of Goose Lake, Iowa; her nieces: Belinda Sullivan of Preston, Brenda Dunn of Miles, and Jolene Decker of Camanche; and nephew: Dennis Gladhill of Hiawatha, Iowa. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother: John Gladhill. Mitzi passed away, Friday, September 27, 2019 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics - Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 87.
Funeral Services will be 11:00am, Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00am to the service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
