Louisa Caroline Fredericke Hilgendorf, nee Ucker, born Nov. 12th, 1831, in Pommerania, Germany, died Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock, aged 83 years, 6 months and 19 days. The deceased was married to Joachim Hilgendorf in Pommerania, Oct. 8th, 1857. Five children were born to this worthy couple in Germany, one dying in the Fatherland, and one was born in this country. In 1868 she came with her family to New York State and a few years later moved to Lyons, Iowa, where she has lived ever since.

On June 12th, 1909, her husband passed away and for three years she lived alone, but for the last three years has resided with her daughter, Mrs. Gus Spormann. She leaves to mourn her loss three sons and two daughters: Charles and Fred of Lyons, Henry of Chicago, Mrs. Caroline Spormann of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Pena Spormann of Lyons. Also twenty-six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one sister, Mrs. Augusta Thomsen, of Lyons, and one brother, John Uecker, of Lyons.

Mrs. Hilgendorf was a member of the Lutheran church for many years, and will be sadly missed by a large circle of friends, among whom she was kindly known as "grandma". She was a kindly old lady and always had a pleasant word for everyone.

The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at the residence, corner Old Main and Miami streets and the services at the home will be private on account of illness in the family. Public services will be held at St. John's Lutheran church at 2 o'clock, at which Rev. Hugo Grimm will officiate in both German and English. Interment will be made in Oakland cemetery.
