Mrs. Elnora Hogg, aged 34, wife of Robert Hogg, died just as the noon whistle blew, of carbolic acid poisoning. It was self administered, but whether intentionally or not has not been determined. She swallowed the poison less than half an hour previous to that time.
Mrs. Hogg had been feeling poorly this morning, complaining of sharp pains in her stomach. The acid bottle was on a shelf in the medicine chest among other bottles. She took it from there and poured a considerable quantity in a glass with some water, but it is thought she may have done it by accident, mistaking it for some other bottle. She swallowed the mixture and quickly discovered the mistake. She called in her husband and he summoned Dr. Hullinger immediately. The physician arrived fifteen minutes later, but Mrs. Hogg was already beyond aid and she died in a few minutes.
Mrs. Hogg was a Clinton girl, daughter of Mrs. Tarner of Olney avenue. She is survived by her husband, engineer on the Northwestern, and four brothers two of whom are in Clinton and two in the west. No funeral arrangements had been made today. Doctor Kellogg was called, but it is probable that no inquest will be held.
