Miss Gertrude Spelman, aged about 30 years, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Spelman of Charlotte, died at Mercy hospital at about 8 o'clock this morning, following an operation.
Paralysis of the heart is ascribed as the cause of the young woman's death. Nitrous ovide had been administered as an anesthetic, and death ensued.
The news of Miss Spelman's death will come as a shock to her many friends in Clinton county, many of whom did not know that she was ill. She was one of Charlotte's most popular young ladies. She received her early education at the Charlotte school, graduating from the Eighth grade, and then entered Mr. St. Clare academy, where she completed the academic course in 1900. She was a talented musician and was prominent in musical circles.
Besides her parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Spelman, she is survived by one sister, Mrs. Thomas Blackmire, of Minneapolis; an uncle, Mauric Foran, and an aunt, Mrs. Catherine Nelson, of Lyons.
The remains will be taken to Charlotte this evening on the 5 o'clock train and the funeral will probably be held from the Catholic church in Charlotte Thursday morning.
