On last Saturday morning death quietly entered the home of Mrs. John R. Perry, living two miles southeast of town and claimed her for its own. The deceased had been ill with erysipelas and old age disabilities for some time and death was not wholly unexpected. She was born in Rockingham county, Virginia, March 7, 1831, and was aged 84 years, 1 month and 24 days at the time of her demise. She was married to her departed husband on Sept. 16, 1851, and they moved to Iowa in 1857 and about 1861 west to California overland where they remained for two years when they returned to Clinton county and purchased the old homestead where they lived happily until four years ago when her husband was called in death. She is survived by two sons and two daughters who are Andrew of near DeWitt, Martin of Eugene, Oregon, Mrs. Anderson Walrod of near DeWitt and Alice who lived at the old home with her mother. The deceased was a kind and loving wife and mother--a neighbor who by her gentle, loving nature had endeared herself to a host of friends who offer to the remaining ones sympathy in their bereavement. The funeral which was conducted by Rev. J. J. Kidder, M.E. pastor of DeWitt, was held at the late home yesterday afternoon at 1 o'clock. Undertaker J. W. Kelly had charge of the funeral. A large concourse of sorrowing relatives, neighbors and friends followed the remains to DeWitt where they were interred beside her deceased husband in Elmwood cemetery.
