John McCarthy, aged about 75 years, died at Mercy hospital last night at 6 o'clock after a lingering illness due to the infirmities of old age.

The deceased came here from Ireland over fifty years ago, and always made his home with the Cahill family. For a number of years he has been making his home during the winter months at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Cahill and during the summer months has been engaged in farm work around DeWitt and vicinity. He has no relatives in this country.

The remains will be taken to the Cahill home from which place the funeral will be held Saturday morning at 9 o'clock. Requiem mass will be celebrated at St. Irenaeus church and interment will be made in Holy Cross cemetery.

The funeral of the late John McCarthy was held this morning from the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Cahill on South Fourth street. Requiem mass was celebrated at St. Irenaeus church at 9 o'clock by Rev. James Comerford. The pall bearers were Messrs. Clarence Langdon, Maurice Foran, James McQuillan, T. J. Hudson, John Moore and C. J. McAllister. Interment was made in Holy Cross cemetery. Out of town friends who attended the funeral were Messrs. T. W. Kelly, John Rohr, James Kelly and Joe Batholter of DeWitt; Patrick Hanaher, Thomas Burke, M. Stevenson and James McMahon of Welton, and Willis Burke and Ed Welsh of Charlotte.
