Richard Carey Wolfe Obituary
Among the well-to-do and successful farmers of Liberty Township, this county, is the gentleman whose names heads this notice. He is a pioneer of 1859, and since that date has been actively identified with the agricultural development of the county. Mr.Wolfe is the son of Maurice and Ellen (Carey) Wolfe, natives of the "land of the Shamrock." The parents came to this country in 1847 and in 1859 settled in this township, where the father followed agricultural pursuits for twenty years. His demise took place April 1, 1879 and his good wife died in Ottawa, LaSalle Co., Ill, August 14, 1857. They had a family of twelve children,and Richard C., our subject was tenth in order of birth. Richard C. Woulfe was born at Ottawa, Ill., Dec 10, 1847. He came to this country with his parents in 1859 and his life has been devoted to agricultural pursuits. He is the owner of 437 acres of land and is meeting with far more than ordinary success as a farmer. He keeps from fifty to sixty head of cattle and nine head of horses on his place, and fattens about seventy head of hogs annurally for the market. The marriage of our subject took place in Liberty Township, April 16, 1877, at which time Miss Margaret McGunnigle became his wife. She was born at North Madison, Ind., Feb 24, 1854, and has borne her husband four children - James, Ellen, Maurice and Edward. Mr. Wolfe has held the office of Constable and in the fall of 1884 was elected Justice of the Peace and is the present incumbent of that office. In politices he votes with the Democratic party.
