Phyllis Ann Dierks Bratthauer, age 90 of Bryant, passed away peacefully in the care of her children on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 23, 2109 at Faith Lutheran Church in Andover. Visitation will be from 3: 00 to 7:00 PM Thursday, August 22nd at the Pape Funeral Home in Clinton. Additional visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the funeral time Friday at the church. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ryan Cleary, Nolan Bratthauer, Adam Volker, Michael Bentley, Stan McCrudden and Bill Wiesner.
Phyllis was born in Clinton, Iowa on March 27, 1929, the daughter of Peter and Lucinda (Bott) Dierks. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Andover. Phyllis attended Clinton County Schools and graduated from Miles High School in 1948. She was employed as a dental assistant in Clinton at a children's dentist and orthodontist office for 3 years until she married Harris Bratthauer on September 9, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clinton. She worked part time as a dental assistant while Harris served in the US Army in Korea. They started farming in 1955 near Bryant. In 1963 they purchased a farm near Bryant. She worked in partnership with Harris in the daily farming activities and bookkeeping for the farm. Harris passed away on May 19, 2004.
Phyllis was a member of the Clinton County Rural Letter Carriers, Caring Circle at Faith Lutheran Church, the Clinton County Homemakers and County Antiquer's. She loved her many flower gardens and being outdoors.
Phyllis is survived by 3 children, Steven (Janis) Bratthauer of Bryant, Scott Bratthauer of Bryant and Sherilynn Werner of Clinton; 3 grandchildren, Ryan, Corissa and Nolan; 4 great grandchildren, Audrey, Ryne, Anna and Arianna; 5 step-grandchildren, Kris, Michael, Chad, Stephanie and Bill; 7 step-great grandchildren, Phillip, Seth, Kassandra, Jacinda, Piper, Kaydence and Odin; 3 sisters-in-law, Pat Dierks of Preston, Darla Bormann of Preston and Ruby Bratthauer of Sabula and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son-in-law Steve; a daughter-in-law Kim; a brother, Lester and an infant brother, Glenn. A memorial has been established.
