Shirley M. Bowman, 86, of Clinton, Iowa passed away at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa, on Thursday, December 19, 2019. Funeral services take place at 3 pm on Monday, December 23 at Lemke Funeral Homes - South Chapel (2610 Manufacturing Drive). A visitation occurs two-hours prior from 1 pm until the service hour at the funeral home. Burial takes place at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
Shirley was born February 26, 1933 in Stanbury Wisconsin to Rexford and Jeannette Briggs. She married Robert J. Bowman September 23rd, 1953, who has since passed away.
Shirley attended schools in Stanbury and Hayward WI. She was a housewife and worked at J.C. Penney in Clinton until her retirement.
She was a Member of the First United Methodist Church in Clinton, IA. In her earlier years, Shirley enjoyed camping on the weekends with her family, spending time at their summer cabin in Wisconsin and picking wild blueberries in the woods. More recently her hobbies included Red Hat Club, TOPS Club, cooking, sewing, basket making, gardening, collecting antiques, visiting apple barns, taking bus trips and dining out with her friends, using her computer and Facebook. She enjoyed weekly phone calls with her sister, Ramona.
She is survived by her children, David (Lorrie) Bowman of Bettendorf, IA, John (Sheila) Bowman of Cornell, IL; Sister Ramona Kettlewell of Apple Valley, MN; grandchildren - Adam (Hartini) Bowman of Kendari, Sulawesi, Indonesia and Kaitlin (Jake) Hoegger of Odell, IL; and 1 great grandchild and 1 on-the-way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Burton Briggs and sister Wava Rice.
Shirley will be greatly missed by her many friends and especially by her family who loved her.
