Rae McClimon(1928-2019)

Rae Joseph McClimon, 91, of Delmar, Iowa, went to his eternal reward Monday morning, October 7, 2019, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born August 10, 1928, in Welton to the late Walter and Mary Rose (Rea) McClimon. Rae was a 1947 graduate of Delmar High School and attended Loras College for one year and New Melleray Abbey for eight years. He then returned to farming with his father. On August 6, 1960, Rae was united in marriage to Lois Kathryn Hoffmann at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sugar Creek. The couple farmed and raised their family at rural Delmar until retirement. Lois preceded Rae in death October 26, 2009.

Faith, family and farming were Rae's priorities in life. The two things Rae was most proud of were the times he had with his wife and children and for the eight years that he spent at the New Melleray Abbey in Peosta.

Surviving are children, Edward (Andrea) McClimon of Maquoketa, Kathleen (Jeff Vincent) McClimon of Cedar Rapids, Michael (fiancée, Michelle Bartusek) McClimon of Windsor Heights, Bradley McClimon of Delmar, Shaun (Jill) McClimon of Gilbert, Arizona, Troy (Christine) McClimon of Bettendorf and Theresa McClimon of Clinton; 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; siblings, Bill McClimon of Davenport, Anna Mae McClimon-Kraus of Horseshoe Bay, Texas, Olive McClimon-Cannon of Baltimore, Maryland, Madonna (John) Hart of Wheatland and a large extended family

Also preceding Rae in death were a sister, Marie Garcia and brothers-in-law, Ben Garcia, Denny Kraus and Bob Cannon.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Petersville from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2019 with a rosary at 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2019, in the church with the Rev. Fr. Scott Lemaster officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, DeWitt. Family will serve as pallbearers.

The family extends a special thank you to Genesis Hospice and caregivers especially Dee Eberhart, Mary Lou Sparks and Caroline Bredekamp. Also to family and friends who stopped by to comfort Rae and his family during the final days.
