18 January 1915 - The Clinton Advertiser page 7

Dennis Crowley, Sr., died Saturday at 5 p.m., at the age of 106 years, at his home 418 Railroad street. He succumbed to pneumonia, contracted several days ago. He made a fight against the disease, worthy of a man thirty years younger.

His death follows that of three others of his kin in the last year. His wife died seven months ago at the age of 98. His son, Michael, Jr., died Dec. 31 while other members of the family were attending the funeral of Dennis Ryan, son-in-law of the elder Mr. Crowley. Mr. Crowley had been despondent since the death of his son and it is believed that sorrow helped weaken his resistance to the fatal malady.

Mr. Crowley was born in County Cork, Ireland, June 1, 1809. He came to this country and this city 42 years ago and has since made his home here. He entered the employ of the Northwestern almost immediately upon his arrival here and was with that company until ten years ago when he was retired on a pension. He was still active and able then and was only retired because of his advanced age. In fact, Mr. Crowley retained his faculties up to the end. He could hear as well and see as well as men years younger than himself and members of his family enjoyed listening to his narratives of early days in Clinton and life in Ireland before he came to this country.

He married Mary Dinneen sixty-six years ago. Nine children were born to them, four of them preceding their father's in death. Mr. Crowley had been flagman for a number of years before his retirement and was known as one of the most careful and efficient flagmen in the city.

He is survived by his sons Dennis of Milwaukee, and David of Chicago, and his daughters, Mrs. Lyman Limbocker of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Margaret Delaney and Mrs. M. J. Cunneen of this city. He also leaves twenty-four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's church. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery.
