Joseph C. Henle, a veteran of the civil war and a pioneer resident of Clinton, died Monday night at 8 o'clock at Mercy hospital, where he has been sick two weeks.

Mr. Henle has been a resident of this city more than 60 years. He came here with his parents when a little boy from Taylorsville, Ohio, where he was born May 6, 1840. In September, 1865, he was united in marriage with Margaret Downs, who with two sons and four daughters survive him.

The children are John and Henry, Clinton, Mrs. Eva Bigelow, Albany, Ill., Mrs. T. F. O'Connor, Aurora, Ill., Mrs. J. Bernard, Portland, Oreg., and Mrs. T. H. Spaulding, Clinton. All were with their father except Mrs. Bernard of Oregon.

Forty years ago he entered the employ of the C & N W, and was pensioned with honors in 1906, after a record of good service. He was foreman of the old Second street shops twenty years and held this position at the time of his retirement.

J. C. Henle served the union flag in the war of the rebellion, and was honorably discharged after the grand review in Washington at the close of the war. He was a member of Company K of the Twenty-sixth Iowa Infantry.

The funeral will be held from the home of Mrs. T. H. Spaulding, 716 South Sixth street to St. Mary's church Thursday morning at 9:30 o'clock. Interment will be made at St. Boniface church.

The funeral of Joseph C. Henle, aged veteran of the civil war and pioneer railroad man, will be held Thursday morning at 9:30 o'clock at St. Mary's church.

Joseph C. Henle was laid to rest this morning at St. Boniface cemetery after funeral services at St. Mary's church.

Mr. Henle was a veteran of the Civil war, a pioneer of Clinton county, and a pensioned employe of the Northwestern Railway company.

All the children attended the funeral save Mrs. Bernard of Oregon who could not come.
