Death summoned away another Clinton pioneer and veteran railroad man Tuesday morning at 2:30 o'clock, when Robert Arnold died at his home, 425 Fourth avenue, of heart trouble, superinduced by an attack of la grippe.

Mr. Arnold has been a resident of Clinton 51 years. Nine years ago he was retired from the service of the Chicago & Northwestern Railway company after having served them more than 50 years as engineer on the Iowa division. He entered the employ of that company at the age of 15 and at the time of his retirement was one of the oldest engineers on the road.

Robert Arnold was 78 years old. He was born in England August 4, 1839, and came to this country at the age of 14.

Mr. Arnold leaves his wife and one daughter, Miss Lizzie M. Arnold, of Clinton.

Dr. F. H. Burrell of St. John Episcopal church will conduct the funeral service at the home at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon.

Robert Arnold was laid to rest Thursday afternoon at Springdale cemetery after services at the home, 425 Fourth avenue. The Rev. Dr. Burrell of St. John's church officiated.

Special music was furnished by Mrs. F. L. Miller and by Mrs. Otto Henningsen.

The pallbearers were: A. F. Howes, John Cosgrove, John Lake, F. S. Roberts, D. H. Ward and Frank Moffett.

James Herring of Belle Plaine attended the service.
