AN OBITUARY
Brief Sketch of the Life of the Late Elias Claunch.
(Herald's Special Service)

Miles, Sept 26 -- Elias Claunch was born in Kentucky, April 3, 1841, and moved to Warrensburg, Mo. with his parents when quite young. There he grew to manhood, and when the civil war broke out he enlisted in the year 1861 in the Seventh Missouri cavalry Troop A and served his country three years.
He came to Miles in the fall of 1871 and was united in marriage to Miss Louise Menneke at Lyons in 1878. He had lived in this vicinity and in Miles since then. Four children were born to them, three of whom are still living, Mrs. Lillie Wischmeyer of Dickens, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith of Sabula and David Claunch of this city.
He died at his home here Saturday afternoon, Sept 20, aged 72 years, 5 months and 15 days. The funeral services were held in the Congregational church and were conducted by the pastor Rev. George Baker, with interment in the Miles Cemetery.
