LOIS J. (BLINKINSOP) STEELE

Lois J. Steele, 87, of Burton, IL, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday (September 16, 2014) in St. Vincent's Home.

Born June 14, 1927 in Clinton, Iowa, Lois was the daughter of LeVerne E. Blinkinsop and Julia Carenen. She married Eugene L. Steele on March 22, 1947 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on December 4, 2003.

Lois was a 1945 graduate of Clinton, Iowa, High School. She enjoyed camping and was an avid Cub fan. She was an active member at Calvary Baptist Church, having taught Sunday School class and singing in the choir. She also sang with the Volunteer Voices for several years.

Lois was employed as an LPN at St. Mary Hospital for over 20 years until her retirement in 1989.

Survivors include three daughters, Peggy DeVries (Clair) of Hollandale, MN, Barbara Steele of Waterloo, IA and Mary Niekamp (John) of Quincy; one son, Jeffrey Steele (Janet) of Burton, IL; seven grandchildren, Aaron DeVries (Regina) and Megan Schleicher (Brian) both of Austin, MN, Christopher DeVries (Nancy) of Hollandale, MN, Justin Steele (fiancé Alisson Furniss) of Burton, IL, and Jessica Kelley (Nick), Ryan Niekamp, and Trevor Niekamp all of Quincy; nine great grandchildren, Aidan DeVries, Cecelia "Cece" DeVries, Ella Jo Schleicher, Jaylee Schleicher, Cyprus Schleicher, Emery Schleicher, Natalee DeVries, Payson DeVries, and Lauren DeVries; one brother, David Blinkinsop (Linda) of Sarasota, FL; one sister, Norda Byers (Charles) of Mesa, AZ; and one sister-in-law, Sonya Blinkinsop of Colorado Springs, CO. Also surviving are several loving nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Steele was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Le Steele, one brother, Paul Blinkinsop, one sister, Joyce Hall and one brother-in-law, Glen Hall.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10:00 at Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Manago officiating. Visitation will be at the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or to Calvary Baptist Church Missionary Program.
