Calamus, Iowa, Jan. 27--Jay Peterson was born on the Peterson farm, three and one-half miles northeast of Calamus June 22, 1891, at which place he had always made his home. He was enjoying usual health until December 23 last when he was taken ill with pneumonia. Later other complications set in in quick succession until Jan. 20, 1916, when he passed away at the age of 24 years, 7 months and 29 days. He leaves to mourn his loss a father, Neil Peterson two sisters, Mrs. Willard Smith and Mrs. Harlow Swenson and one brother, Benjamin. He was preceded in death by his mother and sister Belle, a few years ago. He was laid to rest in the Calamus cemetery last Saturday afternoon. Services were conducted by Rev. W. A. Buell at the M. E. church at Calamus. The funeral was one of the largest ever held at this place.
