The death of Robert Bacchus of this city occurred at 3:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon at DeWitt where he went last Tuesday to receive medical treatment. He had not been in good health for over a year and had been growing worse during the fall and winter. Death was sudden and entirely unexpected by his family and friends, who learn of his demise with deep regret. He was 67 years of age on April 26th last. Born in Hull, England, he came to America in 1857 making his home in DeWitt, where he resided until 1885 when he spent six years in California and Nebraska. For the past five years he had made his home in this city residing at 643 Sixth avenue. He is survived by four daughters and two sons: Hattie, Nettie, Mary and May; J. Edward and George A. Nettie Bacchus and aunt Mrs. W. F. Hanson of Des Moines arrived Friday afternoon.
The funeral was held at 11 o'clock Sunday morning with services at the Methodist church in DeWitt, Rev. W. F. Pitner of this city to have charge. Interment was made in the DeWitt cemetery where the remains will rest beside those of his wife.
