OSCAR MAJER DEAD.
WELL KNOWN CHEMIST EXPIRES AFTER A LONG ILLNESS.
Has Been a Resident of Clinton for Many Years and will be Greatly Mourned.
Oscar Majer, the well know druggist and chemist of Clinton died at his home on Fourth avenue and Second street Friday morning after a lingering illness of many months. Mr. Majer's health has been failing for years and his death has been expected for some time. He has been unable to carry on his business for some time and has been confined to his bed.
Deceased was fifty three years and some months old, having been born in Breslau, Germany, January 21, 1848.
Her received his early school and college education in the city of his birth, and at the age of 18 he came to America and in 1866 located at Lyons, Iowa, where his mother had preceded him. On his arrival he entered the employ of Mr. Wohlenberg, who conducted a general merchandise business and after a short time became an apprentice in the drug store of his uncle, L. Manz, under whose thorough instruction he learned the drug trade and later became associated with his employer under the firm of Manz & Majer. In 1877 he disposed of his interest in the drug store firm and moved to Clinton, opening the Majer's drug store, which he conducted until the time of his death. Mr. Majer was first married to Miss Dora Bockel in 1871, who died in 1890, leaving no children. In June, 1891 he married Miss Fannie L. Davis of Chicago, who with her boys Hans and Robert, survive him. He was a member of Herman lodge, K. of P., Lumber City camp, Woodmen of the World, the German Dramatic association and the Turner society of Clinton and a life member of the German society of Lyons.
The funeral services will be held at the house, No. 400 South Second street this afternoon at 3 o'clock and Sunday morning the body will be taken on the Winona to Davenport, there to be creamated.

Remains of Late Druggist Incinerated at Davenport
The remains of the late Oscar Majer were taken to Davenport Sunday where they were incinerated, the ashes being brought back Monday morning in an urn. Many friends of the deceased accompanied the funeral procession to the boat landing. The Clinton branch of the Turner society; Schiller lodge, A. O. U. W. and Herman lodge K. of P. to the number of about 150 acted as an escort. About 50 friends accompanied the remains on the City of Winona. The pall bearers were H. F. Jacobs, Nis Nissen, J. H. Edens, Sr., August Hinricks, John Lietz and Geo. Kendall. An escort of members of Herman lodge, K. P. also accompanied the remains. They were as follows: H. C. Ordway, David Brant, Andrew paysen, Jacob Warnecke, H. C. Hansen and Peter Delaney.
On arriving at Davenport the party took carriages directly to the crematorium where Strasser's band met the procession and played several dirges. G. P. Eyer made a few remarks appropriate to the occasion in German followed by the K. P. burial service. The remains were then placed in the cremator and the party returned to Clinton.
