John Metcalf of DeWitt was found dead in bed Monday evening. It was not known how long he had been there or how he came by his death. He was an old bachelor about 39 years of age and was living alone.
Coroner Hamilton was summoned and went out Tuesday morning to hold an inquest. He impaneled a jury and the case was inquired into. The jury returned a verdict concluding that the man had come to his death by exposure and personal neglect.
