The Clinton Herald Monday April 18, 1910 p 8 General debility, superinduced by an attack of typhoid fever, caused the death of Dr. Louis Kniskern at his home, 236 Third avenue, Sunday evening at 6 o'clock. For the past two months, Dr. Kniskern had been indisposed, but it was not thought that his condition was serious until two weeks abo, when a general paralysis of the system was noted. He failed gradually from that time until death relieved him of his suffering. The deceased was born in Schorasie, Schorasie county, N.Y., 73 years ago, and for the past 35 years had been a resident of Clinton. During this period of years he became widely known throughout the city and his death called forth sentiments of regret from all sides. After leaving his birthplace in the east, Dr. Kniskern went to Buffalo, N.Y., where he located and studied medicine. In 1868 he was united in marriage to Miss Abbie C. Carew, who survives him. No children were born unto them and the death of Dr. Kniskern marks the passing of the last member of his family, his parents, five brother and three sisters having preceded him to the grave. During the latter two years of the Civil war, Dr. Kniskern served as a medical officer on the steamer Mary Sanford, a boat of the South Atlantic blockading squadron, and received special honors for his work generally, as a navy surgeon. During his naval career he was a deep student of warfare and his stories of the Civil was conflict were heard with interest by his friends. On his friends. On his return to Clinton he became affiliated with the General N.B. Baker post, G.A.R. and had since been one of its active backers. Although for the past five years, Dr. Kniskern had not been in active practice he kept in touch with his professional brethren who regret his demise. The funeral, which will be in charge of the G.A.R. post will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m., from his late home, 236 Third avenue. Interment will be made in Springdale cemetery.
