The Last of Earth

The funeral services over the remains of the late H. W. Stephens were conducted at the First M. E. Church at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon, at the Masonic G. A. R. and W. C. R. Societies being in attendance in a body. After a beautiful musical selection by the choir Rev. S. C. Bronson followed with prayers and a chapter from the bible touching upon the certainty of death, the resurrection and the judgement. Mr. Bronson was followed by Mr. George N. Thomas, a member of the G. A. R. Post who spoke at some length upon the exemplary character of the deceased, of his many good qualities and the high esteem in which he was held by all who knew him. The impressive ceremonies of the Masonic G. A. R. orders then followed, after which the remains were conveyed to their final resting place in Springdale, whither they were followed by a large number of immediate relatives and friends. The deceased leaves a wife and three children to mourn loss of a loving husband and kind father. Two of the children are boys the other a little girl who is a hopeless cripple.
