Shirley A. Sheridan, 94 of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to11:30 AM Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Church in Fulton, Il. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 AM. Burial will be at St. Ireneaus Cemetery in Clinton Iowa. Pallbearers will be Gary Seffrin, Joe VanderBeke, Adrian Alva, Mark Griswold, Pat Griswold and Dan Schmidt. Memorials may be directed to the Kahl Home of Davenport, Iowa.
Shirley was born on November 20, 1922 the daughter of Henry and Mayme (Mulligan) Griswold. She graduated from Our Lady of Angels and attended Mt. St. Clare College and Clinton Community College. She was united in marriage to Paul J. Sheridan on September 13, 1947 at St. Boniface Church, Clinton, Iowa. Paul passed away on January 8th, 2001. Shirley worked as a medical assistant and technician at Schick Hospital. She assisted in establishing the Varney Senior Citizens Center and Activities. She retired in 1993 after 18 years at the Clinton County Auditors Office. She was an active member in the Catholic Church teaching religious education. She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Boniface and St. Ireneaus. She chaired the monthly Senior Citizens Card Party at St. Irenaeus and was a Cub Scout leader and PTA volunteer. In her earlier days, she was an accomplished tennis player, enjoyed traveling and spending time with her Lhasa Apso, Muffin. Shirley cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Those left to honor her memory include her loving children, David Sheridan of Clinton, Iowa, Anne (Gary) Seffrin, Bettendorf, Iowa; grandchildren, Sarah (Joe) VanderBeke, Sioux Falls, SD, Elizabeth Seffrin, Cedar Falls, IA, Meghan (Adrian) Alva, Las Cruces, NM; two great grandchildren, Mia VanderBeke and Brayden Alva; step grandchildren, Jesse (Lauren) Adams and Heather Adams and a sister-in-law Ava McFarlin. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, son Larry, and siblings Paul Griswold and Madonna Griswold.
Her children would like to thank the Kahl Home and Mercy Medical Center for the compassionate care given to their mother. A very special thank you to Mary Jessen and Marian Bernstorf for their loving care, making it possible for our mother to stay in her home. The Pape Funeral Home is assisting the family.
