The Clinton Age, Clinton, Iowa, May 9, 1884

Monday evening a teamster named James Ryan, in the employ of the Lyons Paper Mill, dropped dead from his wagon, of heart disease. He was seen to fall over and off his wagon by Mrs. Thomas Nessley, a lady who resides near the straw yard. Help was summoned and the body was carried to the mill’s office where a coroner’s jury was impaneled by Justice DeFrest acting as coroner. The jury heard the evidence and rendered a verdict of death by disease of the heart. The remains were taken to the late residence of the deceased. The funeral occurred Wednesday. Mr. Ryan being a steady, industrious man, leaves behind him many friends.
