Janet M. Burlingame, 87, of Clinton, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2017 at home.
Private Services will be Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons and sons-in-law. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting her obituary at www.snellzornig.com.
Janet Marilyn Goodsman was born on November 4, 1929 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Emma (Anderson) Goodsman. She was a 1947 graduate of Clinton High School and she attended Carthage College. She married James Burlingame on September 16, 1950 in Clinton, Iowa; he died April 21, 2003.
Janet was a legal secretary for Carroll Johnson and Jasper Morgan for three years. She was the proprietor and manager of Goodsmans Orchards for 12 years and ran a horse boarding stable on the family farm for many years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church, past member of the Fulton Country Club, and past member of Valley Oaks Country Club, where she was a member of the Women's Golf Association. Janet was actively involved in numerous Clinton youth activities and programs; she was a room mother, PTA secretary and treasurer, involved in 4-H, Cub Scouts, the Horsemans Association, the Republican Party, and she and Jim delivered Mobile Meals for several years. Janet and Jim enjoyed traveling around the country, but especially to the North Woods of Wisconsin. They spent much time in northern Wisconsin boating, fishing, exploring, and visiting good friends.
Janet is survived by her children: Scott (Pat) Burlingame of Camanche, Jeffry (Master Chief Petty Officer Retired) (Perlita) Burlingame of Corpus Christi, Texas, Leslie (Thomas (Colonel Retired)) Hyde of Woodbridge, Virginia, Steven Burlingame of Ankeny, and Kathleen (Jay) Cherry of Batavia, Illinois; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, and her husband.
