Ivan E. Barber, 97 of DeWitt, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2016 at West Wing Place - DeWitt.
Memorial Services will be 10:30 am, Saturday, February 4, 2017 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ - DeWitt. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until the service time at the church. A luncheon will be immediately following the service at the church. Private burial will take place in the Elmwood Cemetery - DeWitt. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting his obituary at www.snellzornig.com.
Ivan Eugene Barber was born February 21, 1919 in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of Freelan and Elsie (Maynard) Barber. He was a 1936 graduate of DeWitt High School. He married Esther Goers on September 17, 1941 in Kirksville, Missouri; she passed away on January 2, 2009. He joined the United States Army and served from 1943 - 1946 during World War II.
Ivan worked for the DeWitt Bank and Trust Company for 53 years, he was the President of the Bank when he retired in 1981. He was a member of the Clinton Scottish Rite Bodies, Masonic Lodges in DeWitt and Davenport, the KAABA Shrine and Jesters Consistory, the DeWitt American Legion Post 238 and was an active member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ - DeWitt.
Ivan enjoyed many years of ballroom dancing at Fairyland and traveling the world with his wife. Ivan enjoyed coffee club with the men. He was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan and enjoyed attending games. Ivan blessed his family with countless memories during annual trips to Finn'n Feather Resort that included fishing, family meals, games, and love.
He is survived by his four children: Roger (Roberta) Barber of Lincoln, Nebraska, Rhea (Bob) Lease of Crooks, South Dakota, Becky (Gary) Green of Hartland, Wisconsin and Lynn (Jim) Goodall of DeWitt, Iowa; nine grandchildren: Michael (Jody) Barber of Lincoln, Nebraska, Nathaniel (Jamie) Barber of Omaha, Nebraska, Britt Maifeld of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Ashley (Kelly) Gillespie of Crooks, South Dakota, Brigham (Jenni) Green of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Chelsey Green of Robinsdale, Minnesota, Curtis Goodall of DeWitt, Iowa, Hillary (Derek) Mosier of DeWitt, Iowa, and Kaitlin Goodall of DeWitt, Iowa; five great grandchildren: Anna, Sara, Ben, Ella, and Kinley; one brother: Ellis (Myrtle) Barber of DeWitt; one sister: Virginia Soutar of Prescott Valley, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister and one grandson-in-law.
