Clinton, Iowa, February 3, 1900

It was a cold, bitter day when Gen. N. B. Baker Post paid the last respects of that body to their departed comrade John Wortz. Despite the inclemency of the weather, a goodly number of old boys turned out, and though the march to the cemetery and back was trying to most of them they stayed in rank in good shape. They laid their old friend and comrade away in their own ground, peacefully sleeping with the many of his heroic kind who are resting there, still touching elbows in the ranks of the sleeping dead, and the mounds above them will soon be all that is left of the “Grand Army of the Republic.”
