OBITUARY: Christen S. Lund
Christen S. Lund was born on July 24, 1852, in Christianfield, North Schlesweig, Denmark and died at his home in Sabula Iowa on April 29, 1925, at the age of 72 years, nine months, and four days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Denmark when a child. On Nov 8th he was united in marriage with Elsie Marrie Brammen and in 1882 he came with his family to the United States. They settled immediately in Sabula and in this city he passed the remaining 43 years of his life. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lund, five of whom have passed away. The beloved wife and mother was called by death on February 2, 1900 and the children left to morn their fathers passing are Soren C. Lund of Sabula, Mrs. W.A. Winter of Clinton, Mrs. Roy Wise, of Beldon Nebraska, and Elsie, at home. He also leaves tow sisters; Mrs. Paul Rasmussen of Sabula and Mrs. Margaret Damm, of Denmark. There are also a number of grandchildren. Practically all the time Mr. Lund lived-in Sabula, he was employed by the C. M. & St. Paul road, giving up his work as machinist early last fall when his health began to fail. He was one of the Veteran employees of the Road and was held in the highest regard by the officials under whom he worked and by his fellow employees. Mr. Lund was an exemplary citizen in every respect and in his 43 years of residence here had built up a large circle of friends. He was also prominent in lodge circles, being a member of Lafayette Lodge, I.O.O.F Volunteer Lodge, Knights of Pythians, and of the Modern woodman. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at the Lutheran church and was largely attended, members of the various lodges being present, as well as about twenty five rail road men from Savannah. Rev. G. W. Fincher delivered an appropriate sermon and internment was made in Evergreen cemetery.
